Erica Dickson
Club Captain
Erica originally started playing hockey with Accies in 1996 when she was but a whippersnapper. After many years in the wilderness (in Edinburgh, at what is now Waverley Inveresk Trinity), she returned to pull on the Accies shirt she never before owned and due to her hate of long silences became Club Captain in 2011.
Katie McKinnonSecretary
Katy is a Fife farmer’s lassie and one of the loveliest people you will meet at the club. She won the 2nd XI’s most improved player award last season and can be found holding together the defence most weekends. She is also one of the club’s many physios and is expert in leading pre-match warm ups. The soon-to-be army wife enjoyed last year’s stint at secretary so much that was delighted to take it up again.
Lynne Allan
Treasurer
The second physio in the committee line-up, Lynne has been with Accies since she moved to Glasgow to become a student at Strathclyde and later at Caley. She has provided physio support for Scottish Hockey’s junior squads and (unofficially) is the person to go to if you have a sport related injury. When you can catch up with her that is! Lynne is always on the go but manages to find enough time to count our pennies and support the committee wherever she can.
Stephanie Barnet
Media Officer
Steph joined Accies in 2006, having played for Stirling Uni, GHK (booooo) and Laurel Park. Although not a ‘true’ Accie, she’s as close to being one as someone who hasn’t suffered/enjoyed the Academy can be(delete as applicable), as she is always to be found at the club: either playing hockey or supporting her boyfriend Mike at the rugby. Steph runs the summer hockey squad and was last year’s Club Captain, making her the fount of all knowledge. If you’re ever stuck, then ask Steph (and then she’ll blog about it).
Tricia Haughney
1st X1 Captain
Tricia is the club’s adopted hockey cabbage whose enthusiasm for the game and, more importantly for winning the game, is unbounded. She originally hails from the wrong side of the country but all previous affiliations are forgiven. Trish seems to have a magical network from which hockey players can be rustled up which ensures that all season through, Accies 1st XI turn out with brilliant players, no matter what. This means that The Man in the Chocolate Brown Suit always has a good game to watch, even if he has to put up with his owner’s love of the colour pink.
Caroline Sweetman
1st X1 Vice Captain
Sweets is another east coaster who is an all round multi-sports genius. She captains the Accies ladies cricket team and represents Scotland at this lesser sport. If people think that the Pitticas fitness sessions have been tough, wait til they experience a Sweetman special. Caroline has very helpfully filled in when our coaches have been otherwise indisposed but this can often be to the groans of those who haven’t quite got their fitness up to speed.
Naomi Todd
2nd X1 Captain
This is the second season that Naomi has been in charge of the twos and it promises to be a good ‘un, particularly if our friendly banker manages to get her back fixed. Naomi previously played for Glasgow Uni, before a wee stint in London that ended in a flurry of headlines as she brought down Lehman Bros. Fresh from financial disaster, Naomi saw her fortunes change as she joined Accies and became a force to be reckoned with. Keep up with this lady’s drinking pace at your peril.
Rhona Pole
2nd X1 Vice Captain
Rhona stepped up to the vice-captain role this season after realising what an amazing bunch the 2nd XI truly are. Rhona has played 1st XI hockey for Accies for many years but decided to let some of the younger ones travel the country. This move led to the realisation that the 2s have way more fun. Once you’ve gone Accies 2’s, you’ll never go back to anything else!
Jill Buchanan
Indoor Blues Captain
Jill is another one of the club’s Northern Irish superstars. Married to an Accie, she’s a very strong midfielder with a brilliant goal scoring ability. Jill is also one of the members who works in medical sales and thus has a very snazzy car. Everyone should learn who these members are so you know who to accept lifts to games from (always pack light as they never have any room in their boots for hockey kit as all space will be taken by weird and wonderful medical samples).
Celia Hill
Indoor Whites Captain & Social
Celia is a true Accies worker and can always be relied upon to step into the breach when no-one else can make yet another GASC meeting. Celia works hard arranging work sponsorship opportunities and in ensuring that our big money raising socials go without a hitch. She is also an amazing defender with a rather big hit that scares the bejesus out of us and our opposition!
Jenna Strang
Social
Jenna is an Accie in both senses of the word, having learnt her hockey at Glasgow Academy and then officially joining the Club in 2010. Between these two stages she played at Robert Gordon's University and Ayr (boooooo). She was encouraged to take up the role of Joint Social Secretary after her enthusiastic celebrations with the club when the 1st XI won National Three! When Jenna is not playing hockey, she might be found watching her husband play rugby for Hawks (when he’s not injured that is).
Carol Cooke
Social
If you have met Carol, you will never forget her! Carol is the essential ingredient to every Accies party and her ridiculous enthusiasm is highly infectious. Carol played at Stirling Uni before being pulled into the Accies fold and her spirit and pitch sprinting fitness is highly appreciated. She’s a professional film-maker by trade and although hard hitting social documentaries are her passion, all Accies should remember that she’s available for weddings too.
